Greece Schengen Visa for Omanis
Greece Schengen Visa for Omanis: Requirements, Process, and Tips (2025-2026)
From the whitewashed islands of Santorini and Mykonos to the ancient Acropolis in Athens, Greece is one of the most popular European destinations for travellers from Oman. It is also relatively close, which makes it a practical first trip into Europe. Because Greece sits inside the Schengen area, the visa you get for it also lets you travel across 28 other European countries.
Do Omani citizens need a visa for Greece?
Yes. Oman is not on the Schengen visa-waiver list, so an Omani citizen needs a Schengen visa to enter Greece. The good news is that a single Greek Schengen visa covers short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, and it works across the whole Schengen area, as long as Greece is your main destination or your first point of entry.
Which type of visa fits your trip
The right visa depends on why you are travelling. A tourist visa covers holidays and sightseeing. A family or friends visa covers visiting someone who lives in Greece, and needs an invitation letter from your host. A business visa covers meetings, conferences, and trade fairs, and needs an invitation from the Greek company. A medical visa covers treatment at a Greek hospital and needs the hospital's confirmation. A short-term study visa covers courses or exchanges of up to 90 days. Anything longer than 90 days needs a national visa instead.
Documents you will need
Greece follows the standard Schengen document list:
Application form: completed, signed, with details matching your passport.
Passport: valid for at least three months beyond your departure, with two blank pages, issued within the last ten years.
Two passport photos: 3.5 by 4.5 cm, white background, recent, meeting Schengen standards.
Return flight booking: with dates that match your requested visa period.
Accommodation: a confirmed hotel booking for every night, or, if staying with a host, an invitation letter, a copy of the host's ID, and proof of their address in Greece.
Proof of funds: bank statements for the last three to six months and a bank letter confirming your balance. If someone is sponsoring you, add their financial documents and a guarantee letter.
Travel medical insurance: valid across the Schengen area for the whole trip, with a minimum of EUR 30,000 in coverage.
Proof of your situation: employees provide an employer letter with salary and approved leave; business owners provide commercial registration and company statements; students provide proof of enrolment and leave approval from their institution in Oman; retirees provide pension proof; and those without their own income provide a sponsor's income and proof of the family relationship.
For minors: notarised consent from any parent not travelling, copies of parents' passports, and the child's birth certificate.
The application process
Applications from Oman go through the Greek embassy in Muscat or through City Squares. First, book your appointment online, ideally two to three months ahead. Next, organise your documents, originals plus copies, with certified translations for anything not in English or Greek. Then attend your appointment, where your documents are checked, your fingerprints and photo are taken (unless you gave them for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months), and you pay the fee. You may be asked a few questions about your trip. Finally, track your application online using the reference number you receive. Processing usually takes 15 to 30 business days.
The best time to apply
Greece is busiest in summer and around holidays, so appointment slots fill quickly. Apply at least two to three months before you plan to travel. Applying early also gives you time to fix anything the embassy asks for without losing your travel dates.
Why applications get refused
Most refusals come from a few avoidable problems: missing or incomplete documents, not enough funds or an unclear source of money, no confirmed accommodation or itinerary, weak proof of ties to Oman, insurance that does not meet the rules, inconsistent or false information, or a damaged passport. If you are refused, you receive the reason in writing and have the right to appeal with extra documents or clarification.
